One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is getting Christmas cards from friends and family! I love the photo cards, the letters, even the “I’m still alive” card from crazy Aunt Ruth.
Okay, okay, I don’t actually have an Aunt Ruth, but I did used to get a card from my grandpa before he passed that always had a generic Christmas scene on the outside and a simple holiday greeting inscribed inside. He never wrote anything other than his name, which was always signed formally, first and last name, and it always made me chuckle.
Come to think of it, my dad does the same thing, except he signs his, “Love, Dad.”
Must be a bachelor thing.
(Dad don’t stop sending me a Christmas card, I love it!)
Over the years I’ve tried to implement different ways to showcase the cards and letters, but inevitably they’d wind up in a stack because they would keep falling over when I tried to stand them up.
Then I got an idea…
Wine corks!
Voila! Wine Cork Hanging Card Holder!

Here’s what you’ll need:
48 wine corks
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
10 inches of ribbon
Tacks (I used map tacks, you will want to use ones that don’t have a head that stick out much)
Twine
(Psst! I also recommend sipping on Idaho wine while you craft!)
Here’s how you do it:
First things first, pour a glass of wine to sip on while you craft!
Putting this together is really simple. You simply hot glue corks on top of one another like this:
Then when it reaches your desired length (mine ended up being just over 3 ft with 48 corks) let it sit for an hour, laying flat on a table.
Time for twine!
Hot glue the twine the length of the corks. Place a bead of glue on the top of each cork and lay the twine.
Pull taut and then place another bead of glue on top of the twine.
Then gently run the twine underneath the length of the corks.
Tie at the bottom. Loop the twine around a second time and tie at the bottom.
To secure the twine to the corks, place a bead of glue on top of both strands. Once it’s semi-dry push a tack through the glue and twine.
You only need to do this three times through the length of the corks; I did it every 16 corks.
Gently turn the corks over and place a bead of glue and tack in the three strategic spots.
Now for the ribbon. Fold it in half and lay even on the back of the second cork. Secure ribbon to cork with two tacks.
Ta-da!
I hang mine right by the front door where I hang my keys, but if you need a hook, I recommend using one like this.
Super easy, huh? You can now tack your cards to the corks as you receive them!
I love this card holder for its simplicity and its style. And now look – a beautiful display of all the cards lovingly sent to me from friends and family near and far.
Cheers!
